Combined Fractional and Bulk Heating Modality for Nd:YAG Laser Skin Treatments

چکیده
For deeply penetrating laser wavelengths, such as 1064 nm, the effect of light scattering in the skin leads to a spreading of the beam and consequently a significant reduction in effective fluence for small laser-beam spot sizes. For this reason, the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser has not been used with fractional handpieces, where pixel beam spot sizes are typically very small. Instead, Nd:YAG fractional treatments are often performed using a special FRAC3, self-induced 3-D fractional effect. There are, however, certain Nd:YAG laser skin treatments, such as for resistant port wine stains and hemagiomas, that might benefit considerably by using a standard fractional beam technique. In this paper, we report on a recently introduced Nd:YAG laser scanner which operates at a fractional pixel size of 2 mm. Using a Monte Carlo numerical model, we show that this pixel size represents a suitable compromise between the effects of scattering and the desire to limit thermal effects to small pixel islands. We further show that scattering effects can be utilized to control the depth of the thermal fractional effect within the skin by varying the intra-spot pixel separation.

New Skin Treatment Possibilities with PIANO Mode on an Nd:YAG Laser
Non-ablative skin textural improvement is based on the theory of delivering a suitable packet of photothermal damage (coagulative and biostimulating) to dermal layers beneath a cooled epidermis. In this paper, a new Nd:YAG laser pulse duration modality is introduced which is perfectly suited for this purpose. This new, super long, PIANO modality, which extends the Nd:YAG pulse durations to the ...
متن کاملCASE REPORT: Combined Er:YAG and Nd:YAG Laser Treatment for Non-invasive Body Contouring
Although laser lipolysis has been described as a “lunchtime treatment”, it is nevertheless classified as a surgical procedure associated with certain risks due to surgical incisions and the use of anesthetics, as well as with subsequently reduced skin firmness and lack of skin ability to conform to the reduced body size. We aimed to develop a safe and effective alternative to address both exces...
متن کاملFractional Er:YAG Skin Conditioning for Enhanced Efficacy of Nd:YAG QSwitched Laser Tattoo Removal
In this study a new approach to laser tattoo removal is proposed. Although Qswitched laser systems have become the gold standard in tattoo removal, they also have their limitations. To overcome existing procedure limits, pretreatment conditioning of the skin with a fractional Er:YAG laser was studied. Laserdrilled micro channels known as skin perforations were found to enhance the efficacy o...
متن کاملFRAC3: Three Dimensional Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Skin Rejuvenation
A novel self-induced non-ablative threedimensional fractional FRAC3 method for skin rejuvenation is described. The method utilizes short pulse duration/high peak power density of Nd:YAG Accelera mode laser pulses. The Accelera pulses produce a three-dimensional fractional pattern in the epidermis and dermis, with damage islands located predominantly at the sites of skin imperfections. Thermal m...
متن کاملBeyond Customary Paradigm: FRAC3® Nd:YAG Laser Hair Removal
VSP (Variable Square Pulse) Nd:YAG laser devices hold the most prominent position among all available laser sources for hair removal. This is due to the long wavelength (1064 nm) which Nd:YAG devices produce. Light with a wavelength of 1064 nm lies in a biological absorption region that allows light to penetrate deep into the skin, but at the same time its absorption in hair follicles is strong...
